A Unique Night of Western Classical Music blended with Indian Folk and Carnatic Music at Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix on Friday, August 28th, 2016 at 8:00 pm. Ilaiyaraaja, Raja 50 USA Tour - a monumental Raja 50 celebration of Ilaiyaraaja's life's work as he completes 50 years of his entry into the world of music.

A man of extraordinary perseverance, Ilaiyaraaja has performed in over 20,000 concerts worldwide, and now the Isaignani returns to the USA for a tour that will visit Boston, New Jersey, Washington DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Los Angeles and San Jose before arriving in Phoenix.

Ilaiyaraaja

Reverently known as 'Isaignani' (musical sage), Ilaiyaraaja is one of the most prolific composers in the world today. With over 8,000 songs to his credit and nearly 1000 films, Ilaiyaraaja has had the most varied and widespread career in Indian cinema so far. Having composed for films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, Ilaiyaraaja has had the largest Pan-India audience. He is known for his 'signature style' of combining the beauty of Carnatic classical with the grandeur of Western orchestration, thereby creating music that is not only uniquely Indian but also universal.

Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, India's greatest music composer was bestowed the Padma Bhushan in 2010 by the Government of India. He was conferred the Padma Vibhushan in 2018, the country's second highest civilian award. The illustrious composer has bagged five National Film Awards, in addition to the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award conferred upon him in 2012. He is currently the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) having been elected to the Upper House of the Indian Parliament in 2022. CNN-IBN ranked Ilaiyaraaja the greatest Indian music composer in 2006. He created history when he became the first Asian to compose a symphony that was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Arizona Financial theater Information

Arizona Financial theater is a historic 5,000 seat venue, located in downtown Phoenix at 400 W Washington St, Phoenix, Arizona 85003. The Theater is an intimate, state-of-the-art performance venue with variable seating, including a removable wall to create an Orchestra, Mezzanine and additional sections of padded chairs and benches.

There is parking available, and alternative locations to park near Arizona Financial Theatre. For select events Valet will be provided. Street Parking, and lots all throughout downtown Phoenix for parking.
